Cherokee Westlawn Apartments is a housing community for older persons, operated under the federal Fair Housing Act as amended by the Housing for Older Persons Act of 1995 (42 U.S.C. § 3607(b)(2)(C)), its regulations at 24 C.F.R. §§ 100.300–100.308, and the Michigan Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act (MCL 37.2101 et seq.).
